Lot 148:
SHIPS FROM Brighton, Uk My creative process revolves around repeatedly abstracting and reconfiguring form. To smear or wipe away paint, exposing previous layers leaves these translucent films. This works to disrupt the image. My work feels like a continuous play between reality and disassociation, a delicate nod toward either presence and absence, solidity and transience. These marks act as if ghosts or echos of a moment, embodying a fleeting yet enduring nature of life. Through this approach, I aim to depict the duality of sight and the ambivalence we can feel for a moment. Emelia Archer (b. 2001) currently lives and works in Brighton, UK, originally hailing from Staines-Upon-Thames, London, UK.Her work seeks to embody a felt experience through a female gaze, centering on the visceral nature of memory, social interaction, and environment. By repositioning the mundane, her creative process integrates social and bodily systems, manipulating paint and form to explore the links between humanity and the environments they inhabit. Emelia aims to build a visual language that captures lived female anxieties and experiences, striving to encapsulate a nuanced, tactile expression through a female lens.Emelia graduated from the University of Brighton in 2023 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting.
