Lot 185:
SHIPS FROM Falmouth, United Kingdom Boscawen-Un is inspired by the Common Green Shield lichen, that can be found growing in abundance on the ancient standing stones and sacred sites of Cornwall and Europe. The form of the piece is influenced by standing stones and is hammer formed, by hand, from Britannia silver using ancient metalworking techniques. The lichen is hand cut silver and enamel, and has become a metaphor about how we could be living more sustainably within the landscape. Lichen is symbiotic and this symbolises the relationship our ancestors, who built the standing stones, had with the land. They were once living in harmony with the land, in a symbiotic and reciprocal relationship. Hallmarked Abigail Brown, Sterling silver, Abigail Brown has been producing contemporary designs in silver since 2001.
