Living Artists Contemporary Art Auction
Lot 419:
SHIPS FROM London This work is inspired by a series of conversations with femme identifying queer women who experience alienation, invisibility, isolation and the exhaustion of having to continuously come out to both the heterosexual and LGBT communities where femme phobia is still widely spread. ARTIST BIO Francesca Alaimo (b. 1970, Rome, Italy) is a self-taught visual artist based in London. They create interventions on paper through the manipulation and transformation of materials and images using prints, soft pastels, oils, acrylics and wax. They create artworks that address themes of shame, queer identity, gender questioning, vulnerability and courage. Through intimate acts of disclosure the artist wishes to reveal what exists beyond appearances and to question, inspire and empower the viewers along a gender non-conforming journey, encouraging them to contemplate their own paths of self- exploration and growth. Francesca’s work has been selected for numerous exhitions, including the prestigious Discerning Eye and The John Ruskin Prize.
