Charcoal study of the head of the Laocoon statue, thought by Pliny to have been sculpted by an ancient Greek sculptor for the Roman Empereror, Titus. It was unearthed in a vineyard near Rome in 1506. The enormous writhing original sculpture can be seen in its entirety in the Vatican Museum.
