Living Artists Contemporary Art Auction
Lot 229:
Working with traditions and myths, Laura Candet reflects on her personal cultural identity by corelating her upbringing with animal sacrificies made in her culture. For example, the ?The Goat? is a symbolic sacrifice made in the New Years Eve when a group of children go door to door playing this scene in order to announce the death of the old year and the upcoming new one. The play indicates a goat that dies of sickness and is brought back to life by the charms and prayers of the doctors and priests. The scene is played over and over again for a full night from door to door, being fascinated by the cyclic aspect of the tradition. Belonging to the field of visual arts, Laura Candet uses both established artistic means and New Media for the development of her artistic projects. Starting from the premise that art has a cathartic purpose, the artist aims to deconstruct the identity processes present in the Romanian social-cultural space and beyond. Through the presence of defragmentation in her works, we can analyze the dynamics betweenthe individual and the present social-cultural framework. Bacau 120×150 cm Mixed media on Canvas
