SHIPS FROM Andover 25 X 20 I had just arrived by overnight train. On the hunt for a much needed breakfast I saw this colourful scene and had to capture it before the traffic on the bridge became to dense. Alix Baker spent very many years as a world renowned military artist. Now she predominantly paints people and places at home and abroad in contemporary styles. Specialities are the Middle East and Oman, where she has lived, and marine subjects.She has exhibited with the RSMA, ROI, RBA, SWA, ING Discerning Eye exhibitions and won many awards over the years. Highlights: her work used in a West End play and in television dramas, the subject of study by GCSE and A level students on several occasions, a large series of paintings for the Sultan of Oman, profiled by BBC?s ?Woman?s Hour? and The Daily Telegraph, selected as the small business by The Times? business section in 1995 to mark Second World War VE and VJ anniversary, the guest speaker in 2011 at the Annual Awards to art students by the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers.She was very honoured to be the first woman and non-Armed Forces person to Chair the Armed Forces Art Society which includes a number of famous artists.
