Living Artists Contemporary Investment art Auction July 2024 Edition
Lot 180:
SHIPS FROM Sheffield This work functions as a kind of ?socio-psychological poetry?. Weaving different time periods and personal experiences utilising juxtaposition but also detecting patterns like a recurring dream, this series examines ?repurposed experiences? and ?collective memories? found in films of New York and explores dislocated (as Peel has never been to New York) surreal ?snapshots? of multifarious perceptions of representations and fictions. Like most of her current work it extracts details from cinema and frames more personal narratives into a wider collective and somewhat surreal way of framing experiences.Stimulating independent thought and reflection is central to Peel?s role as an artist, while providing a framework to discuss our ?innerworlds? and our ?outerworlds?. Taking a Metamodern perspective, she see?s possibilities in the role of the artist in the future to ?hold up a mirror? to society; what has been, what is and what could be. For Peel, social justice is a process, not a thing and her work seeks to facilitate and channel that process to encourage discussion of our similarities and our differences; both in which our humanity lies.My concept works around reproducibility and dissemination a kind of visual discourse analysis to stimulate independent thought and constructive dialogue. A kind of interconnected subjectivity. the collective and individual facilitated by the utilisatation of the medium of print.Collectors will be provided will a handmade certificate on purchase with their name written in their colour of choice. Kate Peel?s art is interlinked with her biography. Her psychological and cultural journey through life is mirrored and explored in her practice. Initially, interested in the language of graphic design, she went on studying art which gave her the framework to explore this from a more personal context. Reflecting on cultural changes throughout years paved the way for some recent series exploring what could be considered Peel?s sense that there is an end of an era in process and her recent work reflects this sentiment. Peel’s interest in the dynamics and contexts in space grew during her MA in Landscape Architecture. Exploration in the social sciences broadened the horizons of her artistic practice. Exhibiting seriously began in 2022 with exhibitions and publications Nationally and Internationally. Highlights include Flux Review (London), Collect Art (Georgia), The Holy Art Gallery (New York), Redcar Gallery (Yorkshire), Boomer Gallery (London) including digital and physical shows. Work Has recently been accepted to the 2024 Venice Biennale ‘Foreigners Evereywhere’ in show curated by Amy Jackson at the Palazzo Pisani-Revedin.
