SHIPS FROM Sheffield This depiction of a British Springtime was painted in May 2019. ‘May Blossom’ is a celebration of the visual spectacle that is all around at this time of the year. I used my memory to create the wonderful visual joy and fizz of white blossom in the North Yorkshire hedgerows in Spring. I grew up in North Yorkshire and it has a very special place in my heart and imagination. The English hedgerows are sublime at this time of year and put on a real show for the eager spectator. The painting was a joy to create and my happiness is reflected in the finished piece I feel.I hope the viewer gets an atmosphere of calm, happiness and peace within when viewing the piece. There is no need to frame, as the sides of the piece are embellished and painted with the blossom, forming part of the completed painting and this also gives the piece a sculptural presence.I have used high quality oil paints and varnishes on sustainable sourced wood, with an ECO Green alternative to traditional turps. ARTIST BIO I draw my inspiration from the constant possibilities of painting and the challenge of its unpredictable nature in conveying a subject. I am most interested in the process of painting and the expression it provides, translating a depth of feeling that is both personal but also shared with the viewer. I predominantly use oil paint in my work for its texture and vibrancy, which creates a strong dynamic.I am constantly using internal and external landscapes and memories of places that are special to me to explore my identity within a landscape, and how that shapes the work. My landscape pieces can be completely abstract or representational depending on what I want to convey in a particular piece. I do not want to be tied to one particular style and I allow my feelings to dictate each work. I allow myself to be mindful and to be in flow. and this enables a freedom for me to use colour, expressive marks, line and allowing my subconscious and memory to guide my pieces. I paint on the floor, use objects I have found on my walks in particular area to also paint with and try and scratch and stick on to any piece, to give the painting(s) a unique identityI have delivered a number of public and private commissions, including a commission for a client featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs television programme in 2013 where I was filmed on the moors doing a preliminary large acrylic canvas for the clients. I then produced a very large bespoke painting as a focus piece for a living area. I have sold my work to private collectors within the UK and Europe. I also have work in public NHS collections around the UK.In the summer of 2018 I had two paintings selected for the prestigious BEEP International Painting Prize, Swansea.
