SHIPS FROM Sweden – Time Is Relative – is painted on raw heavy weight canvas stretched on a wooden stretcher. It is reflecting over the notion of time, where time depends on our frame of reference. Time is different to all beings, for a dragonfly or dayfly, mayfly, a day is a whole lifetime, and to other life-forms or celestial bodies in outer space, a human life may be considered as short. Time is also interwoven with space- into space time. Whatever our perception of time may be, it is here and now and it is precious. This piece also reflects on our interconnectedness with all things, from microscopic particles to gigantic astronomical phenomena and our oneness with the cosmos. ARTIST BIO Multi-disciplinary and contemporary artist, Veronica Gudmundson, creates immersive pieces often depicting astronomical, atmospheric phenomena combined with natural earthly elements. This combination draws on the interconnectedness of life, the planet and space, between microcosm and macrocosm. Gudmundson originates from Sweden and has been based in London for several years where she studied BA Fine Art and Art, Design & Environment at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. She also holds a degree in Anthroposophical Art Therapy.Gudmundson is working with a variety of materials creating paintings, illustrations, sound and light installations and large scale mural paintings for public spaces. The theme in her work is based on a cosmological perspective. With a great interest in astronomy from an early age, surrounded by the deep forests of Sweden with its magical northern lights, cosmology became the red thread in her artistic expression. The images are visualizations and impressions of the interconnection between the inner and the outer worlds, between micro- and macrocosm. Gudmundson has shown her work at the Planetary Science Exhibition at the Planetary Sciences Conference in Washington DC, USA with participants such as NASA and Hubble. She has also shown her work at many prominent galleries and Art Fairs in London and has been presented by several galleries in various countries around Europe.
