Lot 415:
SHIPS FROM London In this piece the subject is struggling to free himself from invisible ropes. We cannot see those ropes but we can tell they are there, in his mind, tying him down and holding him back. Emotions, fears, thoughts have an invisible power on people, which can have devastating consequences. As society pays more attention to mental health, we are achieving a better understanding of how our internalised psychological and emotional worlds shape our perception of our Self and affect our health and behaviour. ARTIST BIO Francesca Alaimo (b. 1970, Rome, Italy) is a self-taught visual artist based in London. They create interventions on paper through the manipulation and transformation of materials and images using prints, soft pastels, oils, acrylics and wax. They create artworks that address themes of shame, queer identity, gender questioning, vulnerability and courage. Through intimate acts of disclosure the artist wishes to reveal what exists beyond appearances and to question, inspire and empower the viewers along a gender non-conforming journey, encouraging them to contemplate their own paths of self- exploration and growth. Francesca’a work has been selected for numerous exhibitions, including The Discerning Eye and The John Ruskin Price. They had their frst solo exhibition in central London in September 2024.
